After months of complex legal discussions, The Hollies GP Surgery in Hadleigh is finally set to reopen to patients from next month (August 2026).
Following agreement between the landlord and GP practice team on the legal arrangements, preparations are now underway to reopen the building and restore services from 3 August.
This marks a significant milestone in efforts to bring services back on site, including moving equipment and preparing clinical systems to ensure a safe and smooth return for patients.
The building was closed following CQC action at the end of last year and the reopening was delayed following a period of disruption caused by legal issues relating to the premises. During this time, a full range of GP services continued from alternative local locations, ensuring patients could continue to access care.
The practice will now take on a new name, Rectory Road Surgery, marking a fresh start as services return to the building.
Patients do not need to re-register and will remain registered with the practice as normal.
“We are delighted that the staff and patients will soon be back in the premises. I would like to thank patients and the staff for their positivity and understanding during the period of uncertainty. The name change to Rectory Road Surgery ensures the surgery’s unique identity as an integral part of the Hadleigh Community remained the same.”
Rosemary Morgan, Chairperson of the Patient Participation Group
Patients with existing appointments will be contacted directly should there be any changes to the location of their appointments. Further information about the reopening, will also available via the practice website.
“I am very pleased to confirm that the building will finally reopen. I would like to apologise to patients for the disruption they have experienced at the Hollies and I thank them and the wider community for their patience and understanding during what has been a challenging period.”
Tom Abell, Chief Executive Officer at NHS Essex
“I’m very pleased that this has finally been resolved, after months of uncertainty for residents. I have supported the action taken to resolve the legal issues, and I would like to thank the care taking GP practice for stepping in to see patients, and I think everyone will be glad to finally be allowed back in the building.”
Dame Rebecca Harris, MP for Castle Point
“I am very pleased that the Hollies building is finally re-opening to the public. This has been an extraordinary situation which has been disruptive and, at times, confusing for the patients who value this important local facility. I hope that the new practice supports them in this next period of adjustment and that the return of on-site provision will continue to thrive under new management.”
