Let’s Talk About Suicide Essex is a suicide prevention campaign that encourages open conversations, raises awareness, and promotes free suicide prevention training across Essex.
The campaign was developed and funded by NHS Essex and is delivered by Thurrock and Brentwood Mind. Its aim is to reduce stigma and help people feel more confident talking about suicide. By increasing awareness, the campaign helps people recognise when someone may need support.
Importantly, suicide prevention is everyone’s responsibility. By learning more, you can help support others and potentially save a life.
Free suicide prevention training in Essex
Let’s Talk About Suicide Essex promotes free online suicide prevention training, available to everyone through the Zero Suicide Alliance.
The training takes around 20 minutes to complete. During this time, you will learn how to recognise warning signs and respond safely. In addition, the training explains how to start a conversation and guide someone towards support.
The training helps you:
- recognise warning signs of suicide
- feel more confident starting a conversation
- understand how to respond appropriately
- help someone access support
As a result, you can play an important role in suicide prevention.

Each year, the campaign supports World Suicide Prevention Day in September. During this time, landmarks across Essex are lit in green to raise awareness.
These activities help start important conversations. They also remind people that support and training are available.
By raising awareness, the campaign helps reduce stigma and encourages people to seek help earlier.

The campaign website provides trusted information about suicide awareness and prevention. For example, it explains how to recognise warning signs and how to support someone safely.
In addition, the website helps people understand when and how to seek support. This information can help individuals, families, and communities respond confidently.
