NHS Essex Integrated Care Board was established on 1 April 2026, bringing together colleagues, expertise, and services from across Essex into a single organisation. As a new organisation, we are currently engaging with our staff and partners to co-create a shared set of organisational values that reflect who we are, how we work together, and the culture we want to build.
This engagement will ensure our values are shaped by the people who work here and reflect our shared commitment to collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement. Our organisational values will guide how we make decisions, how we work with partners, and how we deliver the best possible outcomes for the communities we serve.
In the meantime, all colleagues at NHS Essex are united by, and committed to, the six core values set out in the NHS Constitution. These values underpin everything we do:
- Working together for patients – patients come first in everything we do.
- Respect and dignity – we value every person as an individual, respect their aspirations and commitments, and seek to understand their priorities, needs, abilities, and limits.
- Commitment to quality of care – we earn the trust placed in us by insisting on quality and striving to get the basics right every time: safety, effectiveness, and patient experience.
- Compassion – we ensure compassion is central to the care we provide, responding with humanity and kindness to each person’s pain, distress, anxiety, or need.
- Improving lives – we strive to improve health and wellbeing and people’s experiences of the NHS.
- Everyone counts – we maximise our resources for the benefit of the whole community and make sure nobody is excluded, discriminated against, or left behind.
These constitutional values provide a strong and enduring foundation for our organisation. We will share our locally developed organisational values here once this engagement work has been completed.
