As the NHS organisation responsible for planning health services in Essex, we work to make sure healthcare buildings and facilities meet the needs of local communities and support NHS priorities.
Although NHS Essex does not own the buildings where primary care, community and hospital services are provided, we work with building owners, healthcare providers and other partners, including local councils, to plan future investment in health and care buildings.
Working with these partners, we are developing an estates strategy to make sure future developments support our main aims of providing more care closer to people’s homes and making hospital services more sustainable.
This includes:
- improving existing GP surgeries and health centres, including buildings and technology
- planning new neighbourhood health centres
- helping secure investment for major projects to develop hospitals, urgent care, community and diagnostic facilities
- working with councils and developers to make sure there is funding to expand health facilities when new homes are built.
Ultimately, our ability to improve NHS buildings and facilities across Essex will depend on what we can afford to do with the funding available to us.
