About this research
The COPD community asset mapping report explores support and services for people living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in North East Essex. It was produced by Healthwatch Essex, Community360 and Community Voluntary Services Tendring (CVST).
The report looks at prevention, diagnosis, treatment and community support, alongside the wider factors affecting respiratory health including smoking, housing conditions and fuel poverty.
The research examined prevention, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing support for people living with COPD. It included interviews with people living with the condition, healthcare professionals and community organisations.
The report also looks at the wider factors affecting respiratory health, including smoking, housing conditions, damp and mould, fuel poverty and physical activity.
Executive summary
Many people living with COPD face daily challenges that affect both their physical and mental health. Breathlessness, reduced mobility and isolation can make everyday life difficult, particularly for older people and those living in more deprived communities.
The report highlights the important role of smoking cessation services, pulmonary rehabilitation, community support and physical activity in helping people manage their condition and improve quality of life.
The research also found that poor housing conditions, damp, mould and cold homes can worsen respiratory health and contribute to health inequalities.
