Dr Deepak Kumar is a GP with a strong commitment to improving patient care through education and early cancer diagnosis. He works as a Macmillan GP and Primary Care Cancer Lead for NHS Essex, leading work to improve cancer services and helping NHS teams work together to find cancer earlier.
Alongside his work as a GP, Dr Kumar teaches medical students. He is the Undergraduate GP Lead at Anglia Ruskin University, where he supports students training to become doctors.
Dr Kumar studied Medicine at Barts and The London, Queen Mary’s School of Medicine and Dentistry. He also completed an intercalated degree in Medical Education, which focuses on how doctors are trained, winning a national first prize for his student research project.
Dr Kumar is interested in teaching, research in general practice, and early cancer diagnosis. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP), an RCGP Examiner, sits on the East of England Clinical Senate and is an NHS GP Appraiser.
