Equality Delivery System 2022 (EDS22) is a national NHS framework that helps NHS Essex improve equality in healthcare services and workforce experience. EDS22 helps NHS Essex understand how well we are performing.
EDS22 also supports NHS organisations to create better working environments for staff, free from discrimination, and aligned with the Equality Act 2010. You can read more about the Equality Delivery System on the NHS England website.
What the Equality Delivery System does
EDS22 helps NHS Essex understand how well we are supporting patients, communities and staff. It helps us to:
- understand how well services meet the needs of local people
- review whether services are fair and accessible
- check that staff have equal opportunities and positive workplace experiences
- identify inequalities and areas for improvement
- plan actions to improve equality and reduce discrimination
EDS22 brings together information from patients, staff, communities, partners and workforce data. This helps us make informed decisions to improve services and staff experience.
How NHS Essex uses EDSS2
Each year, NHS Essex reviews its performance against the EDS22 outcomes. We:
- assess how well we meet equality standards
- involve local communities and patient groups
- gather feedback from staff
- identify priorities for improvement
- publish our assessment and action plan
This process helps ensure our services are inclusive and that we address inequalities in access, experience and outcomes.
EDSS2 outcomes
EDS22 focuses on three key areas:
Improving access to services
Ensuring NHS services are fair, accessible and designed around the needs of local communities.
Improving people’s experiences of care
Making sure patients receive respectful, safe and person-centred care.
Improving workforce experience
Creating an inclusive workplace where all staff feel valued, respected and supported.
