Jo Churchill is Deputy Chair of the Essex Integrated Care Board, Chair of the Neighbourhood Health Committee and Chair of the Renumeration Committee.
Jo began her career in retail and construction before personal experiences with cancer led her to become a campaigner for the cancer charity Breakthrough. Her long-standing passion for improving the use of healthcare data inspired her to enter public service, becoming a councillor, serving on a Health and Wellbeing Board, and later being elected as Member of Parliament for Bury St Edmunds from 2015 to 2024.
During her time in Parliament, Jo focused on improving healthcare delivery at both local and national levels, with a particular interest in the use of data and science to enhance system performance, improve outcomes, and release time for care. She played a key role in making the Caldicott Guardian a statutory position and founded the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Personalised Medicine.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jo served as Minister for Primary Care, Public Health and Prevention, working across government and the health and care system during a period of unprecedented challenge.
After stepping down from Parliament in 2024, Jo has continued her contribution to the health sector. She is a Board member of the Norfolk and Waveney University Hospital Group and serves as Maternity Safety Champion for Norfolk.
