Dr Matthew Sweeting is the Executive Medical Director at NHS Essex Integrated Care Board.
Matt provides clinical leadership across NHS Essex and helps improve the quality, safety and effectiveness of health services. He works closely with healthcare professionals and partners to support better outcomes for patients and communities.
Alongside his executive role, Matt works as a Consultant Geriatrician at Broomfield Hospital. He has extensive experience in clinical leadership, service improvement and caring for older people.
Matt was appointed Executive Medical Director at NHS Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board in 2023. Since then, he has played an important role in supporting clinical leadership and improving health and care services across the system.
He has also chaired the Ageing Well Stewardship Group, helping organisations work together to improve care for older people. In addition, he serves as the Freedom to Speak Up Guardian for NHS Essex, supporting a culture where staff feel confident to raise concerns and share ideas.
Before taking up his current role, Matt held senior leadership positions at Farleigh Hospice and Broomfield Hospital.
His clinical interests include frailty, Parkinson’s disease, movement disorders and improving patient care through quality improvement.
Outside work, Matt enjoys spending time with his family and is a leader at his local church.
