NHS Essex is working with NHS organisations, local authorities, communities and other partners to explore opportunities to develop Neighbourhood Health Centres across Essex.
Development of Neighbourhood Health Centres is part of a wider plan by the NHS and government to make more support available closer to people’s homes.
Neighbourhood Health Centres aim to bring together GP services, community services and in some cases urgent care, diagnostics and outpatient activity in one place, alongside wider support such as social care, public health and voluntary sector services. They are intended to make it easier for people to access care, support earlier intervention and prevention, and reduce the need for hospital visits where appropriate.
What stage are we at?
The national vision for Neighbourhood Health Centres has now been established, and NHS Essex is planning for how these might be delivered locally.
We are still at an early development stage. We are:
- Reviewing local health and care needs.
- Working with NHS, local authority and community partners.
- Exploring opportunities to make better use of existing buildings and facilities.
- Considering where Neighbourhood Health Centres could have the greatest benefit for local communities.
No final decisions have been made about specific sites, buildings or service arrangements. We will provide updates as plans progress.
We are committed to involving local people, patients, staff and stakeholders in developing neighbourhood health centres. As plans develop, we will share information about opportunities to help shape services and engage on proposals.
