Sarah is Director of Wellbeing, Public Health and Communities at Essex County Council, a role she has held since November 2024. She brings significant experience in public health leadership, with a strong focus on improving population health and reducing inequalities.
Prior to joining Essex, Sarah spent eight years as Director of Public Health at Bradford Metropolitan Borough Council. During this time, she led a wide-ranging public health portfolio and played a key role in shaping regional approaches to health improvement and prevention.
Alongside her local authority role, Sarah has held several influential regional leadership positions, including Chair of the Yorkshire and Humber Association of Directors of Public Health Network, Chair of the Regional Public Health Practitioners Programme, and Director of Public Health Lead for the West Yorkshire Integrated Care System.
At a national level, Sarah has served as the Association of Directors of Public Health Policy Lead for Children and Young People for nearly four years. In this role, she chairs the Policy Advisory Group and provides expert advice to government on key public health issues affecting children and young people.
Sarah is passionate about working across systems to improve health outcomes, with a particular focus on prevention, early intervention, and supporting healthier communities.
